It’s very common to think that PM means Project Manager. It’s okay if you also made this mistake. The fact is PM stands for Panic Manipulator. But let’s talk about one specific that is important for business: project prospect. We will find out about judgment in the project and what rules PMs follow to make everything works how it should be.

Good Judgment and its Importance

True is the key


It’s hard and barely possible to work without honesty: personal morality and professional judgment. From the personal hart of truth, the pressure to manipulate project status, overstatement of earned income, providing misleading links, incorrect project impact; they must be rejected by political agility. Another, the professional one is a matter of applying professional judgment to the terms of the project and protecting the project’s objectives without deception. These three models help to highlight the correct behavior of PM:

Apparently, the number on the wall is inevitable, when it is underlined as a score, it remembers the erroneous one that has a budget. I don’t need to Americanize on the headache that this causes for the incoming PM.

  2. The selection process that checks candidates for the project team.

  3. Performance management process that includes exit management.

  4. Active monitoring of the work of project team members by the project manager.

Project Communication Management 

A discussion of issues that threaten the outcome of the project is avoided in the hope that the issue will disappear or be resolved on its own. The state of the project becomes a mystery to the organization.


One of the Project Managers’ qualities is looking for at least two steps forward. That’s why they understand what the status proclamation is for the project and the importance of questions from team members and stakeholders to maintain the visibility and commitment of the project and its goals. 


Although communication takes place orally, it requires a plan. The communication plan includes regular contact with the project steering committee and town halls to inform the organization of progress and achievements. 

Project Risk Management

Risk management is referred to as unfounded paranoia. Sound management of risk projects means:

  1. The ongoing discussion of risks and risk reduction along with the stakeholders.

  2. Update risk register actively.

  3. Reducing the probability of probable risks with the help of tasks in the project plan.

Project Procurement Management

Resourceful management of procurement projects means:

  1. The process of purchasing products and services is defined.

  2. Interaction with the organization’s procurement department is usually the consumption of project team resources.

  3. Insist that the decision to hire contract services will not be done by the procurement or human resources departments, but by the project team.

Project Stakeholder Management

It is assumed that the business analysts added to the project team to talk about the business, so no more interaction with stakeholders is required. This approach creates huge problems for end-user acceptance when the new system is expected to start production. The stakeholder project management means:

  1. Overview of the proposed software with the end-user community.

  2. Involvement of end-users in setting development priorities and addressing issues.

  3. People are changing the management plan to guide the transition to the new system.

  4. Expecting great end-user efforts to improve data quality.

How to Deal with the Conflicts

It’s a pity, but the project can be a hiding place for conflicts. For PM, this creates a challenge – to remain sensitive and act before the behavior becomes destructive. Personal conflict is more than business conflict – an issue that most managers choose to ignore, hoping it will pass … Sounds naive.


Business conflict can arise for many reasons: different beliefs or prejudices, contrary to technical opinions, restrictions not accepted, overlapping management bodies and different business interests or hidden goals.


But sometimes conflict is just another problem with older people, which increases stress, undermines teamwork, involves the Project Manager in the “he said, she said” arguments, pointing fingers, failure and possible deterioration of the powers of the PM. Diagnoses may include poor personal suitability for the team, cultural blind spots, outrage, or minimal agreement with project goals and responsibilities. What to Do with the Incompetence

A team can include an inexperienced, resourceful and simple mediator. But the task of the PM is to cope with it.


Incompetence is not the subject of debate, so the first step is to assess the observed failure of productivity and make sure that incompetence is indeed the root cause – not always the case. Poor performance of one team member always affects the performance of others.


This is a serious matter for Project Manager, usually difficult to solve. Remember that the first responsibility of a PM is a project. But if the actions do not give a solution, and the owners say “live with it”, so be it. Make sure that the effort to solve the tasks is recorded, and if necessary, modify the effort estimate and schedule.

How to Take Quality more Serious
